Leave of absence example letters
Leave of absence example letters can vary a lot depending
on a number of factors. The first is your relationship with
the person, organisation or job from which you are asking
for leave of absence. If you have a poor relationship with
them, or have not been reliable in the past, it is difficult
for you to have a bargaining position. Even if you are not
owed time off, if you can claim some moral high ground your
boss will be under pressure or obligated to some degree to
give you time off.
The principle here is that if you are loyal and reliable
with your employer, they will be more flexible with you. This
is not always the case, but as you will see from our leave

If you can't base your request for leave of absence on your past
performance, your next best bargaining position is to base it on
future promises - not good from an employers point of view. You
could offer to work extra hours over a time period, or take on unpopular
shifts or tasks. You may or may not have a sympathetic employer,
but the best option in life is always to build up your credibility
as an employee so that when you need a sympathetic ear you are more
likely to find one.
Your reliability is only one aspect of your bargaining position.

Where you are one of a large pool of employees performing the same
tasks, your employer will have more options in continuing without
you for a period. You may be in a position to help your employer
by presenting the with a 'solution' along with the 'problem', for
example you can arrange to swap shifts with another employee, or
exchange holiday or vacation slots.

Dear My Jones
I would like to request a period of unpaid
leave from June 15th until August 20th. It has long been my
ambition to walk the Snowy Mountain Trail with my family,
and the opportunity to realise that dream has finally arrived.
I realise this wil present some problems
in rearranging shift patterns, however I have talked to my
colleagues in my section and they would be happy to make temporary
changes to accommodate my leave.
In my six years working for Jones and
Jones I have always endeavoured to give my best for the company,
and I would appreciate it if you would consider my application
favourably.

Dear My Jones
My cousin is getting married on June 15th
and my wife and I have been invited to the wedding. This will
unfortunately mean I would need to take 3 days out of my annual
leave from June 14th to June 16th. I realise this is relatively
short notice, however I would be happy to be as flexible as
possible in my vacation arrangements throughout the summer
to help accommodate this.
Could you please let me know as soon as
possible whether you can facilitate this leave so I can book
flights?
